St. Louis, Apr. 27, 1898

My dearest Lewis:

I am thinking this evening that Saturday, Apr. 30, will be your 22nd birthday.  I congratulate you most heartiily dear, may you spend the day in some way, more pleasantly than others.  May you have ever so many returns of the day, each one being a ten fold happier than the one before, and may sunshine, true love and happiness gladden all your future days.  And now with very best wishes, and the best of true love, and a hearty kiss, I will end my congratulation to my own dear Lewis, by remaining his sincerely devoted

Lewis dear, all my folks send their best wishes and well meant congratulations.  Dody.  Lewis Dearest, I send you this small gift as a token of love and remembrance.  It isn’t much dear, but it is the best I could do under the circumstances.

Your Dody.

22 kisses and an extra hug for my sonny.  R.
