August 17, 1899

Dear Friend Rose;

No doubt you thought I had stolen wings and flown away.  Well I did allmost, but never mind the cat will come back.  Well Rose how are you and all your folks also lewis, hope you are all well.  Did Lewis let you read my letter I wrote to him? I believe I told him to, I don’t remember clearly.  I am getting along as well as I can expect at present.  I am taking the baths and you know they take down a persons weight terribly.  No doubt Lewis told you I had been very sick; Oh Rose you don’t know how I hate to repeat my experience, since I have been in Hot Springs.  I no doubt some day will get back to St Louis and tell you all.  Rose you don’t know what a pretty place Hot Springs is.  Central Ave is the main St. in the town and in fact the only business St.  The town is surrounded by high mountains, you don’t know how pretty it looks to see the sun rise and set from behind the mountains.  They have some of the prettiest residences here I have ever seen.  Well dear Rosa this letter is very short one, I will have to stop writing as my assistent is ready and waiting for my bath.  I will try and make my next letter more interesting for you.  Tell Lewis to answer my letter and Rose you do the same Will be so glad to hear from you both.  Do you ever see Otto Miller?  Next time you see him tell him I often think of him.  Best regards to Mrs. Bauwens and Jennie.  Best Love and many kisses both to you and Lewis, I will close.

Your Loving Friend

Julie
